Berlin Lake  report from Bass Chasin in Ohio

My wife listened to this till she threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the back deck and now it's your turn! LMAO. Fishing is a guy thing ,I guess. She did at least point out how late we got home, as usual.Berlin lake information

All kidding aside, this is a lake we had never fished, despite it's great reputation. It did not disappoint us on our first trip. What was most noteworthy was the variety of fish caught and the fact that it was in terrible weather. Another cold front ,with rain, just in time for Saturday of course. Cold and rain as usual!!

One of the challenges this sport offers is trying to tackle a lake you never  have fished. We learned something and if you fish it or never have, I hope these tips help. We started near the dam and on the right side caught several saugeye on crankbaits from Strike King. We are NOT saugeye fisherman to say the least. They were away from shore on a rockey bottom in 7- 10 feet of water. We ended up catching crappie as well near the dam as well to keep it interesting. Later the evening we returned there and I caught a small striper on a 1/4 oz black and white Strike King. Never caught one before.

Moving around the lake I noted a tremendous variety of depths and irregular bottom structure on the scope with even subtle shore points along shore leading to nice underwater drops. On one point two more saugeye and one unhappy catfish on an Emerald shiner Rattlin raplala, a nice surprise.

This is a fun lake that offered the best variety of fish, in one day, I can ever remember in a long time. Oh yes and even one bass which is what we went to catch. Try the lake and I think you will find it interesting to say the least. I hope it isn't 52 degrees when you fish it! Keep crankin.                       Home  NEXT REPORT
